What is to be Done
COURSE TITLE: “Troubleshooting in Syntax - some specific points of confusion”
COURSE GOALS: to analyse and explain some specific points of confusion EFL students may have trouble with when analysing sentences.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Each student will be able to:
-do a complete sentence analysis from both structuralist and generative point of view
-provide a thorough description of the process of sentence analysis: explain the very process of the analysis relying on the knowledge gained at this course
-make a distinction between structuralist and generative analysis of a sentence
ASSIGNMENT IN SUPPORT OF COURSE OBJECTIVES
Each student is required to:
-participate at forum discussions dealing with the assigned topic
-initiate a discussion about some topic which is related to the teaching unit discussed on the blog. They would be expected to: raise questions about things they have difficulty to understand try to give answers/ explain some confusing points to their peers do online homework assignments (individually) and then discuss the difficulties they had within a group and finally share their experience with other groups
ASSESSMENT
Evaluation will be based on the interaction levels and on the delivery of short assignments
TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS
Interaction between students and the tutor and students and students is mandatory for this course since its aim is to concentrate on the difficulties the students have when doing a syntactic analysis. Though students will be provided with some basic instruction and lectures dealing with the assigned topic, they will be expected to comment upon the issue and practically apply it to given examples. Discussions will be promoted after each unit and would deal with the experience student had when learning these units.
